Uncovering the real me

Filed Under: Family & Friends, General Life, Life,

For the past 25 years I have always been the rock of support for my friends and family.  I have helped many a person become successful a the expense of my own career.  I tried to make changes even reinvent myself, but I seem to always have made the wrong choices.  The rest of my life has been fine but it has always bothered me that someone who has a masters degree and able to do a broad spectrum of things could not settle into a successful career pattern.

Peaks and Valleys has made me evaluate these choices and rethink my actions.  Perhaps it has been too much fear and other people's opinions that have held me back.  At times, I feel as if most people don't really know me and my abilities.  They pigeonhole me into neat and convenient categories that don't reflect my interests nor demonstrate my strengths.

Your book has taught me that perhaps changing one small step at a time will change the outcome.  That I should not fear failure but at least make an effort and not sit back and just wait for a lucky break.  I need to take a proactive and positive stand even at age 57.  I never have been given much support just been made to feel guilty for having my own ideas. I now know a lot of this is that I have been surrounded by selfish people.  I know I lack confidence but I can work on it. I am not dead yet! I want and need to be fulfilled!

Thank you for this book.  Keep on writing!!

Great book. I was down today and after reading the book I realized I was existing in a valley I had created. I faced reality and decided to change my feelings. I have developed a plan of actiion for work on Monday. Now I can't wait for Monday to arrive. I plan to buy copies of the book for my boss and some coworkers. I am also givng the book to my wife to read.
Amazing book!

I was feeling sorry for myself while recovering from a self-created deep Valley, and the book was sent to me as a guide from the Universe. Thank you Dr Spencer Johnson, for touching my life and really helping me turn things around quickly. I am now recommending it to my friends and coworkers. We are planning a class on the Peaks and Valleys approach for our colleagues.

To Joleen Fridson, Hi, I came across this website, after being introduced to Spencer's books. Actually, I read who moved my cheese more than 10 yrs ago. However it was only recently i became a fan of his when I read The Present, and now, I am introduced to Peaks and Valleys and saw your post. Like you, I too, have a Masters Degree, broad interests and am also able to "do a wide spectrum of stuff" as God has blessed me with talents in various areasm, I've also helped people needier than myself and to some extent, my career suffered because of my zest for life and people.... Like what you've written, i also haven't been able to secure a very stable job. I guess for my Y generation, this trend is getting more common (I am 31) as we have been plagued with economic recession(s) and increasingly competetive job markets. And to add some more facts, i am neither ugly nor am i unattractive by conventional standards, in fact most consider me an interesting and kinda cute person, but yet, I haven't been able to attract a soul mate into my life. I guess the point which i'd like to make is you are not alone in your valley....there are many others in your situation, or perhaps worse off. So perhaps your purpose in life (in the valley) is to be a rock for them, just like you always have.... I am also very encouoraged that at 57, you are still striving and continuing to move forward and u sound like u hv less fear of failure than before. I truly support your endeavours, and will definitely read Peaks and Valleys, and hope to be inspired by it as much as it has done for you. regards
